The Urban Justice Center
Services Provided: Technical Support, Database Recovery, Strategy
Challenge: The Urban Justice Center (UJC), a non-profit organization that provides legal representation and advocacy to the poor and homeless with fifty employees depend on e-mail for their daily communications. Until the day came when their e-mail services wouldn’t start due to a badly corrupted database file. With over five years worth of contacts, schedules, tasks, public folders and e-mail on the line, it was imperative that UJC recover as much of this data as possible.
Ingenuity: HandRelay provided UJC with it’s own e-mail server to temporarily provide basic e-mail services to the entire staff while the original server was brought to HandRelay’s shop for data recovery. When the recovery was completed, the original server was rebuilt and the recovered data was imported.
Results: By bringing in a temporary server, the UJC staff was able to continue their daily communications without disrupting their e-mail services. HandRelay was able to recover 85% of the damaged database. Fortunately, the lost 15% contained past e-mail accounts, which were no longer needed. The administration staff was trained on how to prevent the database from future corruption.
